UNDERGROUND and COLLECTED STORIES by Russell James. Eureka, CA; Stark House Press; 2007. 1st US publication. Trade paperback.
James’s first novel, never before published in the U.S., plus a superlative collection of previously-uncollected short stories. “An unholy cross between Len Deighton and American noir novelist David Goodis.” –The Face. New introduction by the author.
Russell James is a British crime writer known for his hard-hitting, low-life thrillers, mainly set in south east London. He has written ten crime novels plus a number of short stories and writes a regular column for the magazine Crime Time. In 2001 he was elected Chairman of the Crime Writers Association. Named by the Times as "surely the best of Britain's darker crime writers," Russell James is a truly noir crime writer. There are no detectives in his books, and when the police do appear it is on the sidelines. James concentrates on the criminals, their victims and the people caught up in what's going on.
