THE INVISIBLE EYE by Emile Erckmann & Alexandre Chatrian edited by Hugh Lamb. Ashcroft, British Columbia: Ash-Tree Press, 2002. Hardcover. Enlarged edition. Limited to 500 copies. A collection of fifteen short stories, plus the novella "The Wild Huntsman." This is an enlarged edition of Lamb's 1981 Millington collection, The Best Tales of Terror of Erckmann-Chatrian, now a scarce book, according to Lamb. A few stories were translated expressly for that edition; the remainder were selected from 19th century English-language editions, all of which are now rare. This edition includes a new introduction by Lamb and his article, "The Mysterious Case of the Missing Books," which concerns the fate of the Millington edition. A fine copy in fine dust jacket.
